Top 5 Local Coffee Places

Written by: Ruba Nazer

Being the avid coffee drinker I am, I felt the need to express my appreciation for the below places that have proven to be success stories locally and hopefully will be successful enough to branch out soon.

1. Cups & Kilos (Rainbow Str, Abdoun)

This easily gets the top spot. Often on my way to work I stop by and grab me one latte to go. If I’m adventurous I’d get a cappuccino. The quality of their coffee is great, the service is always friendly (at least the ones on Rainbow Street) and it’s efficient.
However, being also a big Turkish coffee drinker I have to object to the price of their double Turkish coffee, this baby sets you back a little over JOD3.5 but it’s a generous amount! Also, for some odd reason, if you’re buying espresso or a single shot Turkish coffee on-the-go they often refuse to place it in a bigger cup for you, so there’s always a chance of spilling it all over yourself in the car!
Good news is, THEY DELIVER! Number for delivery is 079-9700363.

Latte & Cappuccino go for JOD 2.1 tax inclusive.
Get in touch with them on twitter @cupsandkilos

2. Turtle Green (Rainbow Street)

Yes I know. It’s a Tea Bar! However, that does not stop them from serving excellent coffee. Service is friendly and efficient. WiFi connection available. Although the space isn’t big, it’s often quiet and people are either working away or chatting quietly. They have good sandwiches and mana2eesh and of course a fantastic variety of regular and iced teas.

Coffee is for JOD 2.5.
Their twitter handle is @TurtleGreenTbar but they're not big on tweeting.

3. Abu Saleh (All over Amman! But I know there’s one in Al Madina Street)

What’s Turkish coffee if not bought from the street? This little place started off as a small business and spread all over the city. If you drink your coffee with medium sugar make sure you tell them it’s “sukkar khafeef” because they’re generous with their sugar! Buy an affordable coffee to go and take a drive around this wonderful city.

4. Blue Fig (Abdoun)

Along with everything else that Blue Fig stands for, it offers really good coffee. It’s always freshly brewed. I have to admit, not crazy about the service, and quality of service varies according to time of day and number of customers. However, with all that in mind, it remains one of my favourite spots in Amman.

Regular size American coffee is for JOD 2.4.
Their twitter account is @BlueFig_ and their website is www.bluefig.com

5. Café des Artistes (Rainbow Street)

A nice cozy place that is often quiet. They offer the standard coffee variations. Good service unless they forget you’re upstairs. They combine F&B with art! You can go there and draw on canvas or design your own t-shirt or simply just enjoy the artwork on the walls. WiFi connection available.

Latte is for JOD 2.00 and their American coffee is for JOD 2.25.

6. Cilantro (Abdoun)

Right, it is top 5, but these guys must get a mention. For one, it is my office away from the office. In addition, we have to give homage to our fellow Egyptians! This is one fantastic franchise to support.
Service is friendly, coffee is excellent (just don’t ask for an iced latte because that drink is just weird and too sweet).

Their Latte is for JOD 2.4
Twitter address @CilantroJordan but they never really tweet.
